COC questions, answered straight
The questions homeowners, agents, and developers ask us most often.
Do I need an Electrical COC to sell my house in South Africa?
Yes — a valid Electrical Certificate of Compliance is legally required for property transfer in South Africa under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. Without it, the conveyancer cannot register the transfer. TOOLE issues SANS 10142-1 compliant certificates accepted by every major bank and conveyancing firm.
How long does an Electrical COC inspection take?
Most residential inspections take between 1 and 3 hours, depending on property size and the condition of the electrical installation. TOOLE issues the certificate same-day where possible. For larger commercial or telecom sites, plan for half a day.
Do you serve both Johannesburg and Pretoria?
Yes — TOOLE services the entire Gauteng province. This includes Johannesburg, Sandton, Randburg, Roodepoort, Edenvale, Midrand, Pretoria, Centurion, Hatfield, and surrounding areas. Same-day or next-day service available across Gauteng.
What happens if my installation fails the inspection?
You're given a written report with every fault and a quote for repairs. You decide whether TOOLE fixes it, or you arrange your own electrician — either way no certificate is issued until the installation is fully compliant. There are no surprise charges.
Can you re-issue a lost COC?
Yes — we re-inspect and re-issue a new certificate when the original paperwork has been lost. This is common for older homes, where the original was filed by a previous owner or developer. Same-day re-issue where the installation is already compliant.
Is TOOLE registered with the Department of Labour?
Yes — TOOLE is a Registered Installation Electrician with the South African Department of Labour, qualified to inspect, test and sign off your installation per SANS 10142-1. This registration is what makes the certificate legally valid for transfer and insurance.
